Make Effective Course Choices
Look for courses that can satisfy both major preparation and general education or IGETC requirements; some courses that meet the minimum admission requirements can also help satisfy major preparation or GE requirements.
Let's say, for example, that you plan on majoring in Psychology and you know that Statistics is required at the UC campus you plan to attend. You may be able to take a Statistics course that is accepted both for your major and as part of your General Education requirement (either the local campus GE pattern or IGETC).
Or maybe you know you want to major in Psychology but you haven't decided on a campus. If there's one Statistics or Mathematics course that's accepted at all of the UC campuses for your major, and other courses that are accepted at only one or two, the most commonly accepted course may give you the most flexibility.
You can use the UC Statewide Transfer Preparation Paths and the UC Campus Transfer Preparation Paths to help you choose effective and flexible coursework. Use the Statewide Paths to compare requirements and criteria for admission among similar majors at all of the UC campuses. Use the Campus Paths to see the requirements and criteria for admission at a single campus.
Use articulation agreements between your community college and UC campuses to learn exactly which community college courses can be used to meet major, GE and admissions requirements.
Pay attention to unit limits if your record includes courses from another four-year institution. If all of your courses are from a California community college, there is no limit on the number of units you can take; UC will award graduation credit for only 70 of the units, but all courses will be considered for subject credit.
